The All-Star Game is nearly upon us and the halfway point of the season just passed.  What does Derek have in store for us this week?  Take a look.

Andrés Torres - OF (San Fransico Giants)

It may come as a surprise to some that Torres is playing his sixth season in the MLB, as he has never been the type of player to garner much attention and has usually been left to a reserve role. This season Torres is enjoying career highs in stats across the board, and it doesn't hurt that he has already had almost one hundred more at bats than he has in any previous season. Torres has earned those extra at-bats through solid offensive play and improved base running skills. The switch hitter is 17 for 21 in stolen base attempts and according to Rotoword, he is working towards extending those numbers and getting a better jump and lead towards second base. Torres has also been solid at the plate hitting .278 with 5 home runs, 27 RBI's and 42 runs scored. If you are in a league that uses doubles or extra base hits as a stat, you'll be pleased to learn that Torres is currently tied for fourth in the league in doubles, and has also legged out four triples thus far. Torres has flown far under the radar as both a productive hitter and a sound option for speed. He is currently only 13 percent owned in Yahoo fantasy leagues and would be an excellent option either for deeper leagues or an injury replacement.

Wandy Rodriguez - SP (Houston Astros)

Rodriguez has lost the respect of many of his owners and may be one of the most dropped pitchers this season. His first half has been nothing short of nauseating. However, Wandy has now posted three consecutive starts in which he has lasted at least six innings innings and allowed only one run posting a 0.97 ERA in that span. For those who have hung on to him all season, three impressive wins likely does very little to alleviate the bad taste he has left in their mouths. Wandy has typically posted a strong second half to the season and this is where his ownership in fantasy leagues may pay off. Wandy is the type of pitcher who pounds the strike zone and usually posts very high strikeout numbers, but when his command suffers, so do your pitching stats in your fantasy league. Rodriguez has the potential to pitch like an ace and it's reasonable to believe that his last few starts are the beginning of good fortunes for anyone who picks him up as a free agent. Whether you owned him previously and cut him loose, or another member of your league dropped him, it would be beneficial to give him a second chance in the second half. Wandy is currently 65 percent owned in Yahoo fantasy leagues, up 28 percent from last week. That's a lot of people that recognize a common trend in Wandy's career. Grab him before it's too late and ride out what should be a much smoother ride than he's provided earlier this season.
